Friedhelm Brusniak , born 1952, Univ.-Prof. Dr. phil. habil., chairman since 2012

studies in music education, history and musicology in Frankfurt a. M., first and second state examination for teaching at grammar schools and PhD in musicology (1980), Akademischer Rat a. Z. at the chair of musicology at the Universität Augsburg (1981-1987), DFG habilitation scholarship 1988/89, lecturer, teacher and substitute professor for music education at the universities resp. universities of education in Erlangen-Nürnberg (1988-1999) and Heidelberg (1994/95). Habilitation in musicology at the Universität Augsburg (1998). Professor for music education at the Julius-Maximilians-Universität Würzburg since 1999, first chairholder of the music education chair at this university since 2004. Visiting professor at the Akademia Pomorska w Słupsku since 2011. -  President of the Deutsche Mozart-Gesellschaft e.V. (1994- 2002). Chairman of the Hermann-Zilcher- Gesellschaft e.V . since 2009. Chief scientist of the Stiftung Dokumentations- und Forschungszentrum des Deutsches Chorwesens and project manager "Deutsches Chorwesen" ( Deutscher Chorverband e.V. ) - Fields of research include choir and choral singing in past and present, history of music education since the late middle ages, research in biographies of music educators. Regular courses and lectures about Leo Kestenberg and the "Kestenberg-Reform" as well as publications about Leo Kestenberg's dedication to the organization of music and German language amateur choirs (cf. reprint of the proceedings of Kongress für Chorgesangswesen in Essen 1928, Leipzig 1929, in: Chor - Visionen in Musik , ed. F. Brusniak, Kassel 2003; additional recent articles: Choir in Focus 2011 , eds. U. Geisler and K. Johansson. Göteborg 2011; catalogue 150 Jahre Deutscher Chorverband for the exhibition in the Paulskirche Frankfurt a. M. 2012).

 

Andreas Eschen , born 1953, deputy chairman since the founding of the IKG 2008

studied German and protestant theology at the Freie Universität Berlin and completed his Master's degree with honors. Simultaneously, he received piano lessons from Gudrun Schmetzstorff at the Julius-Stern-Institut der Hochschule der Künste Berlin and he later studied music at the Hochschule der Künste Berlin where he took the "Staatliche Musiklehrerprüfung" (federal examination for music teachers). Eschen holds the position of assistant director at the Musikschule Tempelhof- Schöneberg , which was named Leo Kestenberg Musikschule (Leo Kestenberg School of M usic) after his suggestion and which has since taken the initiative of returning to Leo Kestenberg's reformatory ideas. He gave a speech about the relationship between Kestenberg and Jöde at the International Kestenberg-Symposium 2005.

 
Anna-Christine Rhode-Jüchtern, born 1944, PD, Dr. phil., treasurer since the founding of the IKG 2008

studied musicology, ethnomusicology, art history; longstanding teachi ng experience at the Oberstufen-Kolleg at Universität Bielefeld . Her publications focus on female composers of the 20th century, music during the Nazi era and right- wing extremism in music. She participated in the Kestenberg-Symposium in 2005, presenting a paper about the female ''Kestenbergians'': the music educators Charlotte Pfeffer, Frieda Loebenstein, Maria Leo and Susanne Trautwein.

 

Ann-Kathrin Seidel , born 1981, secretary since 2012

studied musicology and journalism at the Universität Leipzig. For her Master's thesis, she reviewed Leo Kestenberg's estate at the Israeli Music Archives and extensively interviewed contemporary witnesses. Ms. Seidel is fluent in Hebrew. Her journalistic work focuses on the Arabic world and Israel. 


Rachel Epstein, Kestenberg's daughter, honorary member since 2012

The contact with Rachel Epstein laid a foundation of the work of the IKG. Since the first review of her grandfather's es tate at the Israeli Music Archives in Tel Aviv in 2003, she has been an important support in Israel. She herself maintains valuable parts of the estate, including a collection of photographs, a drawing by Kokoschka and a bust by Barlach, and is always willing to grant access information as well
